Montrose Regional Health announced changes to its board of directors this week, adding a new member and reshuffling leadership positions as part of its standard annual governance cycle, according to a news release from Montrose Regional Health.

The community nonprofit hospital is overseen by an eight-member board, with each director serving a four-year term. This year’s update includes the appointment of Joseph Simo, a longtime Montrose County educator and school administrator. Simo has spent more than 20 years in local education as a teacher and principal and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in business education from Adams State University, a Master of Arts in educational leadership, and additional superintendent coursework from Western State University.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to join the Montrose Regional Health Board and collaborate with such dedicated leaders,” Simo said in the announcement. “Together, we will continue advancing the quality, access, and integrity of care that our community deserves.”

Along with Simo’s appointment, the Board selected new leadership for the coming year. Jack Johnston was elected chair, replacing outgoing chair Mary Vader, D.O. Michael Brezinsky, M.D., will continue serving as secretary and treasurer.

MRH officials said the annual realignment helps ensure strong, stable oversight of the hospital, which serves Montrose and the surrounding region.
