Annual Parade of Lights takes place this Saturday, Dec. 6

The annual Parade of Lights will take place Saturday, Dec. 6, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The parade will start at North Pythian and West Main and follow the designated downtown route.

This year’s theme is “A Vintage Christmas.” Floats and entries will be judged on how well they incorporate nostalgic elements from the 1940s through the 1970s, including period colors, décor, music and historical references. Judges will score entries in five categories: theme, quality, appearance, effort and participation.

Quality judging criteria include structural integrity, clean construction, and working lighting or sound components. Judges will also consider creativity, color harmony and overall visual impact. Effort will be measured by the coordination of costumes, signage, props and music, as well as evidence of planning and rehearsal. Participation scoring will be based on engagement with the crowd and the involvement of the full group.

Organizers said the parade has reached maximum capacity and is no longer accepting additional entries.

A map of the Parade of Lights route is available for attendees planning to watch the event.
