Baan Thai food truck closes, citing operational challenges

Baan Thai, a popular food truck serving authentic Thai cuisine in Montrose, has closed. Owners Loren and Tui Stout, who launched the business in February 2023, cited a combination of personal and operational challenges as reasons for shutting down.

“It’s been an incredible journey, and we’re grateful for all the support from the community,” Loren told the Business Times. “But the reality is, running a food truck is tough—long hours, unpredictable weather, and rising costs all played a role in our decision.”

Baan Thai quickly gained a loyal following for its fresh, made-to-order dishes, including their version of pad Thai, curries, and Thai iced tea. The truck, often stationed at San Juan Brews and other locations around town, was known for its authentic flavors and friendly service.

In a 2023 interview with Montrose Business Times, Stout shared how his wife, Tui, originally from Thailand, brought traditional recipes to the menu, while he managed operations. The couple’s goal was to offer something unique to Montrose’s food scene. and they achieved that in the time they served their food.

Despite the closure, Stout says they aren’t ruling out future ventures. “We love this town, and who knows what’s next? For now, we’re taking a step back, but we’re not saying goodbye forever.”

When the Stouts announced the closure last week, fans of Baan Thai expressed disappointment on social media, thanking the Stouts for bringing Thai cuisine to Montrose and wishing them well in their next chapter. Their final day in business was Saturday.

“We’d like to tell all our customers that we appreciate their business over the past few years,” Loren said. “We are happy to call Montrose home and happy we could bring a bit of Thailand to our home town. The community was fantastic, and we never met a customer we didn’t enjoy serving.”

The food truck is currently listed for sale.
