Montrose Regional Airport to receive $3.37 million to fund taxiway improvements

Montrose Regional Airport will receive $3.4 million in federal funding to reconstruct Taxiways C and D, part of a $20 million investment in airport infrastructure projects across Colorado funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

The funding, announced by U.S. Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper, is part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Infrastructure Grants (AIG) program, which supports improvements to airport safety, capacity, and operations nationwide. Since its signing, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law has provided over $518 million to Colorado airports.

“These investments will help airports improve safety and expand capacity to get Coloradans where they need to go,” Bennet said. “It is another example of how the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law keeps delivering for our state.”

“Colorado’s airports drive our economy and connect our state,” Hickenlooper added. “These Bipartisan Infrastructure Law investments will strengthen our economy and make air travel both easier and safer.”

Montrose is one of 12 airports across Colorado benefiting from the latest round of funding. The full list of awarded projects includes:

• Colorado Springs – City of Colorado Springs Municipal Airport: $5.86 million to improve 63,121 square feet of the terminal, fund gates and hold room areas, and reconstruct passenger and baggage movement spaces.

• Durango – Durango-La Plata County Airport: $4.08 million to expand the terminal by 19,728 square feet, adding gates, hold rooms, and TSA screening and baggage claim areas.

• Montrose – Montrose Regional Airport: $3.37 million to reconstruct 790 feet of Taxiway C and D.

• Telluride – Telluride Regional Airport: $2.62 million to install navigational aids, construct a 10,000-square-yard South Apron, and build a new 500-foot paved Taxiway B3.

• Pueblo – Pueblo Memorial Airport: $1.65 million to construct an 11,781-square-foot hangar and rehabilitate 1,500 feet of Taxi Lane east pavement.

• Cortez – Cortez Municipal Airport: $585,000 to expand the general aviation apron by 5,270 square yards.

• Buena Vista – Central Colorado Regional Airport: $556,000 to expand and rehabilitate existing apron areas.

• Pagosa Springs – Stevens Field: $511,244 to reconstruct the existing 19,000-square-foot parking lot.

• Limon – Limon Municipal Airport: $328,625 to reseal 3,000 feet of Taxiway A and 4,700 feet of Runway 16/34.

• Burlington – Kit Carson County Airport: $187,484 to reconstruct 3,200 feet of Taxiway A.

• Cañon City – Fremont County Airport: $145,000 to rehabilitate 1,470 feet of paved Taxiways A3, A5, and A6.

• Erie – Erie Municipal Airport: $145,000 to rehabilitate 400 feet of Taxiway A and 800 square yards of the general aviation apron.

The FAA’s Airport Infrastructure Grants program is expected to deliver continued funding for infrastructure projects that enhance safety and efficiency at airports across the country.
