Corks Fine Wine and Spirits is closing permanently, as confirmed by the store’s manager Jim Trujillo on Wednesday.
Trujillo said the store has faced stiff competition since grocery stores in Colorado have been allowed to sell wine.
A law passed by Colorado voters in 2022 and enacted in 2023 allowed anyone with a license to sell beer to sell wine.
Grocery stores that were already selling beer, like the City Market in Montrose, located next door to Corks, began selling wine at that time.
“We just can’t compete with them next door,” Trujillo said.
The store is liquidating, and all wines are 30% off, Trujillo said.
