Style ReMix, a new resale boutique, held its grand opening last Friday

A new resale boutique held its grand opening ribbon cutting at The Boardwalk Shops on the south end of town on Friday, with Chamber of Commerce members and customers stopping in.

And though the shop — which specializes in women’s clothing, accessories and jewelry — may be new to some, the resale game is not new to the owners.

Kris Ann Hinkle got out of the resale boutique business a little more than five years ago, when she sold The Classy Closet on Main Street. Since then, she missed retail: interacting with customers and finding items that can be resold. She got out of the business to help her daughter, Abbey Robertson, take care of  her new children.

This time, Hinkle gets to go into business with her daughter.

“We said let’s do something, and let’s do it our way,” Hinkle said before the grand opening on Friday.

She said the new shop will specialize in higher-end items (not items you could find at Walmart).

For months, the two have been collecting and buying inventory they can sell in their shop.

“It’s offering Montrose a place to take their closet items, and we can go through it and see what we can purchase from them locally, so they don’t have to go to Grand Junction or Denver,” she said.

Instead of selling clothes on Facebook Marketplace, Hinkle says people can head to Style ReMix to sell their clothes, shoes and more.

“It’s got to be in good condition, and it’s got to come in clean,” she said.

That means people who go to Style ReMix to do their clothes shopping can get higher-quality items.

They are also hopeful their location, on the south end of town at 17656 US-550 Unit E is close enough to other shopping in Montrose, like Target and Marshalls. There is also another resale store near Style ReMix on the Boardwalk.

“I’m hoping that with Montrose growing, we’re only a mile from Target and a half-mile from the last stop,” Hinkle said. I think it’s going to be great.”
