Longtime downtown barber sells Classics Barber Shop

Kodie Coblentz, longtime owner of Classics Barber Shop in downtown Montrose, has decided to sell his shop at the end of this month.

The 32-year-old business owner opened the shop by himself in 2013, but recently, he moved back to Gunnison to be closer to family.

The commute between here and Gunnison is difficult, so he decided to sell the Montrose shop. He will still be cutting hair at the family shop he operates with his dad in Gunnison.
“It’s just reached the point where it became too much, so one of my other barbers, he is going to kind of pick it up and keep the shop going,” Coblentz said.

Taking over the shop is Tomas Cruz-Villalobos, who, according to Coblentz, has already taken over several of Coblentz’s clients.

Classics Barber Shop is at 12 S. Cascade Ave.

Earlier this week, he posted this to Facebook:

“How do you sum up a decade of building a buisness? Do you measure it in the hours spent at the shop? The friendships you’ve made? The number of first haircuts? Or… last? Over the last almost 10 years, I have played a part in marriages, divorces, graduations, and first impressions. I have watched children in baby carriers, start middleschool. I have “illegally” cut hair through a pandemic. And I have grown to know, and love every part, and person of the Montrose community. I went from doing one, or two haircuts a day. To having appointments booked months out. I am deeply humbled, and I can not thank you all enough for the life, this community has given me. You have all supported me, and helped mold me into the barber, and the man that I am.
With that being said, it saddens, and excites me to let you all know that “unofficially”, December will be my last month of owning, and operating Classics Barber Shop. My family made the move back home to the Gunnison Valley six months ago. And with the looming winter weather. And, the due date of my son very quickly approaching. I need to stay closer to home, and make an honest go, of building a life there. Classics will continue to stay open, and provide this community with the same quality haircuts, and service that it always has! So please stay tuned for those exciting announcements! I hope that every one of our clients can be as excited, and supportive as I am, through this transition.
I think I could write a million more things, and thank yous. Well wishes, and appreciations. But I’ll leave you with this…
Thank you all! I love you guys! And….
Stay Classy Colorado!!!”
